Q

What are the 3 types of evaluation

A

Three types of evaluation:
– Process evaluation (were you able to implement your strategies in the way you
intended & did they work?)
– Impact evaluation (did you achieve your objectives?)
– Outcome evaluation (did you achieve your goals?)

Q

What is the Haddon-Matrix

A

Looks at factors related to personal attributes, vector or agent attributes and environmental attributes; before, during and after an injury or death (event). Allows you to see what influences an event to occur and what influences the outcomes

Q

In the heirarchy of control (triangle with PPE on bottom and elimination on top), is PPE or elimination more effective and sustainable

A

Elimination of the issue/aspect is more sustainable and effective than trying to get all people to comply with using personal protective equipment

Q

What are the roles of education, environment and enforcement in injury prevention

A
Education= educate people about the issue and solution (including contributing factors (ie. leaving the pool fence open)
Environment= Changing the environment to make it safer (ie. putting functional locks on pool gates)
Enforcement= Use enforcement to ensure compliance (eg. making it illegal to not have a fenced off pool/functioning gate)

Q

What key things are important to remember when trying to communicate health prevention

A

1) remember your target audience (public vs academics)
2. use plain simple language and visuals
3) try to connect with the community
4) be able to put numbers into context so people can relate to the significance

Q

What are the 5 key steps in the FLIP model for developing prevention plans

A
  1. Diagnose the problem
  2. Identify major causes/goals (flip causes to objectives)
  3. Design strategies to achieve objectives (flip determinants to strategies)
  4. Plan your project
  5. Plan the evaluation

Q

Why is evaluation important when developing programs

A

Needed to assess whether you achieved your objectives and goals and whether you were able to implement the strategies in the desired way

Q

What are the 3 stages of the haddon matrix and the 4 influencing factors

A

Pre-event= factors that prevent the existence of the agent or the release of the agent and provide host protection
Event= minimise the amount of agent present, control the agent/host interaction to minimize damage and increase the resilience of the host
Post-event= provide rapid treatment response for the host, rehabilitation and healing
–> these are influenced by personal factors, vector factors, physical environment factors and social environment factors

Q

What is to be considered when you are in the stage of ‘diagnosing the problem’

A
  • key issues and priorities
  • who the primary target is (people at risk) and the secondary target (people who can help), does the evidence justify your reasoning for wanting to create a program for this issue, how will you evaluate it

Q

What is to be considered when you are in the stage of ‘identifying causes/goals’

A
  • brainstorm the problem and determine key components and sub components
  • flip to objectives (what you are trying to achieve)
  • is this accomplishable, how will you evaluate it

Q

What is to be considered when you are in the stage of ‘design strategies to achieve objectives’

A
  • brainstorm determinants- environment, social, behavioural

- review chain of causation (how sub components lead to key issues etc) and where they can be stopped
