Q

Changing social attitudes

A

K1in 1894 some woman gained the right to vote if they were 30+ and owned various properties
-woman being allowed to vote showed that woman should be taken seriously

k2 Elizabeth Garrett Anderson became the first woman to be elected as a mayor in Britain

A-,this perhaps helping woman get the vote as having a woman as a politician also showed that woman could understand and effectively understand politics

A+however, although some woman could vote, voter turnout was extremely low and not all eligible woman registered to vote
this showing that woman perhaps did not want to vote in elections

Suffragists

A

The suffragists were led by Milicent Fawcett in 1897

k1 the suffragists were involved in many peaceful campaigns this included petitions and letter writing to MPS
k2 They also suspended their efforts when Britain was at war gaining them the opinion that woman were responsible and were to be trusted with voting

A-his potentially getting woman the vote as they were seen as responsible, and giving woman the vote would be seen as a “thank you”, therefore being rewarded for their actions

A+ However the suffragists were unsuccessful and many of the suffragists members turned to the suffragettes as they were impatient, therefore showing that the suffragists were not influential in getting woman the vote

Suffragettess

A

The suffragettes were a violent protesting party founded in 1903 led by Emmeline pankurst

k1 They done violent acts such as attacking police officers and acts of vandalism such as destroying post boxes

in 1913 Emily davidson ran infront of the kings horse resulting in her death
A+This resulting in the pressure group gaining a high amount of attention increasing the pressure on the government

A+ however by being violent it played straight into the stereotype that woman were underserving of the vote and by attacking MPS it further did not help their cause
