A
Close-grained, hard wearing, strong and finishes well

A
Tough and durable, finishes well. But it stains in contact with steel.

A
Tough and flexible- can be bent if steamed, open grained.

Mahogany
A
Durable and easy to work but with some difficult interlocking grain.

Teak
A
Strong and durable, resistant to moisture, its colour darkens when exposed to light.

Pine
A
Easy to work, cheap, may contain knots which weaken the wood. Needs protection if used outdoors.

A
Light in weight but not very strong, expensive, durable against moisture due to natural oils.
