Proper noun
serves as the name for a specific place, person, or thing. capital letters used.
Common noun
if a noun isn’t proper its common. there are 2 types abstract and concrete.
Abstract noun
ideas and concepts.
Concrete noun
actual thing.
Count noun
something you can count.
Non-count noun
cant count or have an or a.
Aggregate noun
only exists in plural form eg scissors.
Collective noun
group of individuals eg flock.
What is a noun phrase?
a noun modified by one or more other words, usually an adjective.
Comparative adjective
use ‘er’ or ‘more’ to compare things.
Superlative adjective
use ‘est’ or ‘most’ to show that a noun is the extreme/ultimate of the description.
Absolute adjective
cannot be graded. perfect, dead.
Attributive
come before the noun.
Predicative
come after the noun.
Regular verb
follows the usual pattern when changed for tenses. walks, walked , walking
Irregular verbs
do not follow the regular pattern. swim swum , swims
Dynamic verbs
actions such as run, jump , think
Stative verbs
states or processes where there is no obvious action eg believe, remember.
not to be used as commands and do not occur after ‘to be’
Auxiliary verbs
secondary words in a sentence i have eaten brownies. often ‘to be’ or ‘to have’
Modal verbs
are auxiliary and express the possibility of something or an attitude
Transitive verbs
must be followed by an object. carried, found, make,
Intransitive
objects do not have to be followed by an object. laughed.
Adverb of manner
tells us how you do something. wildly, casually.
Adverb of frequency
how often. never, always, often.
