Work, energy and Power 3.3 Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is the equation for work done and its standard unit?
Work done=force parallel to motion * distance parallel to the motion
-The standard unit is a joule which is equal to one Nm so one joule is transferred when a 1N force causes an object to be moved 1m
Difference between work and work done?
-Work is scalar whereas work done is a vector quantity
How do you calculate work done when the force is at an angle to the direction of motion?
-Work out the component of the force parallel to the motion using trig and use that
What is the conservation of energy principle?
-The total energy of a closed system is constant and energy cannot be created nor destroyed only transferred.
Define Power?
-Power is the rate of doing work and is measured in Watts or Joules per second
What are two equations for Power?
-Power=work done/time taken
-Energy=Power* time
What are the different forms of energy and the equations needed to calculate them?
