Q

what is gravitational potential energy?

A

Gravitational potential energy is the energy that an object has by virtue of it’s vertical position in a gravitational field. When an object is raised vertically, work is done against the force of gravity and the object gains gravitational potential energy

7
Q

what affects kinetic energy?

A

Kinetic energy depends on mass and speed, the higher these two things are the higher the kinetic energy

Q

why do meteors burn up?

A

When meteors enter the atmosphere they have a very high kinetic energy. Friction due to collisions with particles in the atmosphere transfers some of their kinetic energy into heat energy and work is done. The temperatures are so extreme that most meteors burn up and never hit the earth
