Workbook 2- Correlation And Regression Flashcards
(10 cards)
Correlation Graph Y&X Axis
Y-Axis: Independant Variable
X-Axis: Dependant Variable
Regression Line
Line of best fit
Product Moment Correlation Coefficient- PMCC (r)
Provides info on the type and strength of correlation (eg -1 is perfectly negative, 1 is perfectly positive and 0 is no correlation)
Interpolation
Using the regression line to make predictions which fall within the range of the observed data, stronger the correlation the more reliable this prediction
Extrapolation
Making predictions outside of the range of observed data, unreliable as no evidence of the pattern of data continuing beyond the range
Causal Correlation
When a change in one variable does affect the other
Spurious Correlation
Correlation without a causal connection
Steps to Hypothesis Testing with Correlation
- Hypotheses
- Data
- Critical Region
- Compare
- Conclusion
One Tail Test Hypothesis
H0: p = 0
H1: p<0 or p>0
Two Tail Test Hypothesis
H0: p=0
H1: p=’0
