Working Equations (^=-o-=^) Flashcards
(8 cards)
1
Q
How is a net ionic equation different from a neutral species equation?
A
- net ionic equations only have the equations reactants that change state
- neutral species equations have the full equation, including the ions that do not react
2
Q
What is a combination (or synthesis) reaction?
A
- A+B→AB
- 2 things become one thing
3
Q
What is a decomposition reaction?
A
- AB→A+B
- 1 thing becomes 2 things
4
Q
What is a single replacement reaction?
A
- A+BC→AC+B
- if A is more reactive than B
- a metal replaces another metal in a compound
5
Q
What is a double displacement reaction?
A
- AB+CD→AD+CB
- a compound switches partners with another compound
6
Q
What is a dissociation reaction?
A
- an ionic compound dissolves into it’s ions
7
Q
What is the other name for a combination reaction?
A
Synthesis reaction
8
Q
What is the difference between decomposition reactions and dissociation reactions?
A
decomposition - breaks into 2 balanced/stable things
dissociation - breaks into it’s ions
