Peninsular War
military conflict between Napoleon’s empire and the allied powers of Spain, Britain, and Portugal for control of the Iberian Peninsula during the Napoleonic Wars.

Leader of France during French Revolution and created the Napoleonic code)

Nobles and others who left because the Old Regime/old way of life was being thrown away

When the 3rd estate went on the tennis courts and pledged that they wont leave until a constitution is signed and it is fair for everyone
Maximilian Robespierre
Caused the reign of terror, once he became leader of the Committee of Public Safety he started to have people put on the guillotine for unjust reasoning and if they didn’t support the revolution
Reign of Terror
When revolutionary radicals took over the government and killed or arrested those who did not support the revolution
Napoleonic Code
A modernized law code that formed into a unified legal system and it recognized and supported freedom of religion and equality between every individual.
Congress of Vienna
Was an assembly that established equality in Europe and a long term peace plan for Europe after the French Revolution and Napoleon era
Battle of Waterloo
When the British and Prussians beat Napoleons army and ultimately ended French dominance

When the 3rd estate started to riot and panic because the King hired Switzerland body guards

A radical political organization who wanted democracy
Estates General
1st government of France and made up of all 3 estates
National Convention
It oversaw the creation of France into a republic and the shift of the French Revolution to its radical phase.
National Assembly
The National Assembly formed a goal to create a new and effective constitution and to decrease the power of the Church and nobles.
The National Assembly did not succeed with these goals due to disagreements between the three estates and the Third Estate being looked down upon by the King, Louis XVI.

An attempt to recognize the Roman Catholic church as one of France’s problems and removed a variety of privileges from the priests
Brunswick Manifesto
A proclamation that discussed no intention of going into war, no meddling in the government of France, allied armies will protect the French towns and villages, members of the National Guards will be treated as enemies
Waterloo
The place where Napoleon lost the Battle of Waterloo and his reign over Europe
1st Estate
Clergy/ Priests, did not pay taxes, owned the most individual land
2nd Estate
Nobel’s, did not pay taxes, and owned a large amount of land
