The Schlieffen Plan: a surprise attack through Belgium designed to outflank the French armies. Then fight the Russians and knock out both France and take the Russians to fully mobilize

Americans wanted to remain neutral in the war but soon became fearful that their economy would go down due to the war

Unauthorized German submarines in the US coast, economic complications between British and French if the Allies were to lose, the threat that Germany would help Mexico fight back against the U.S., the Zimmerman Telegram and the sinking of Lusitania

There was a Russian Revolution. An uprising by he Bolsheviks (led by Vladimir Lenin) refused German terms until they accepted the Treaty of Brear-Litivsk

He wanted Germany to suffer and pay all losses and damages, to weaken Germany militarily

He wanted to compromise US and Britain’s wants in the treaty, to expand the British Empire, maintain British control of the seas and to increase Britain’s trade

Italy wanted the Adriatic Coast
