What was the Invasion of the Soviet Union?

A

3 million German troops smashed into the Soviet Union, but Stalin destroyed livestock, supplies, machinery, farms, bridges, roads, communication lines, etc. - so that the Nazis would have nothing to use. This invasion started on June 22, 1941.

A

5,000 Canadian soldiers landed to take the beach and the town of Dieppe back from the Germans but they were sprayed down by the Germans. This took place in Dieppe on the coast of France in August 1942.

A

The German U-boats were destroying convoys in order to destroy their supply chain. However, better training and the convoy system improved for the Allies. Sonar waves were used to alert the Allies of the U-boats used by the Germans. This lasted from 1941 - 1943 in the Atlantic Ocean.

A

The Germans tried to capture the victory of Stalingrad as a sign of triumph against Stalin and communism. However, this backfired as the Soviets had a smashing victory. This took place in January 1939 - September 1942

A

Allied forces were pushing the German out parts of Western Europe, and the Canadian forces eventually got Germany to flee from their control over the Netherlands. It happened on May 5, 1943.

A

Due to his skill as a speaker, he attracted a large following and became the political leader of Germany. He promised to bring Germany out of depression and chaos. Also, LebensRAWM and Third Reich. He violated the Treaty of Versailles and killed roughly 11 million people (6 million were Jews). He shot himself before he could be captured.

A

After Mussolini threatened war he was made the political leader of Italy. He promised to restore Italy to its former power. He invaded Ethiopia which was one of the only independent countries in Africa (this violated the Treaty of Versailles). Some of his own turned against him and he was eventually caught by Italian communists and was shot.

A

Stalin set up a five-year plan in order for him to have control of all of the entire country, killing others if necessary. He also promised collectivization which involves agriculture. He killed Kulaks and sent them as well as public enemies and prisoners to camps called Gulags.

A

Explain the pressures of Japan in Asia and the Pacific Ocean.

A

Japan needed to acquire new territories as Japan was in a state of economic depression, coupled with a growing population, and a strong need for raw materials. So in 1931, the Japanase Army invaded Manchuria in Norther China without the consent of its own government. Cut off from major supplies, Japanese military commanders that war with the United States was the only solution.

There were still strong feelings of nationalism, which can lead to war. Germany was crippled by the Treaty of Versailles. German people were very angry that they were blamed for the war and that they would have to pay extreme penalties for “starting” the war. Germany would not accept this humiliation, and soon Germany attempted to get revenge with a certain Adolf Hitler.
