they were to weak and didn’t have a military and their policy of appeasement wasn’t working to well. when japan invaded china (manchuria) the league tried to condemn them and negotiate but they withdrew from the league

A

quebec was very against conscription and when king was elected president he promised not to conscript people. then later in 1939 they needed more troops and created the NATIONAL RESOURCES MOBILIZATION ACT which allowed the govt to do anything for war and in 1942 conscript people. plebiscite- is a vote on a particular issue. the whole country voted about conscription and quebec was the only province that voted against it.

A

germany had monopoly over the atlantic ocean, they were trying to starve the british and the wolf packs of uboats would sink any convoys or ships in the ocean. they even came up the st lawrence. britian relied on canada for supplies and food from canada. they ended up winning the battle when they cracked the naval code. sept 1939 until may 1943

A

may 26 until june4 1940. germany had the allies surrounded . they rounded up all the boats and evacuated to britain before germany could bomb them. two days later the luftwaffe bombed dunkirk.

dieppe raide

A

august 19 1942 stalin wanted the allies to invade europe from the west so 2nd canadian division did the raid however a brief sea battle happened alerting the german soldiers, bad weather caused them to dock in the daylight, the tanks couldn’t operate on the pebbles and there was bad communication so they sent in more troops.

A

1943- recapture europe through the soft underbelly. they started in SICILY canada won the battle and this lead to mussolinis downfall but germany kept fighting. they continued on to ORTONA where they fought house to house eventually canada won this battle as well. 6000 canadian soldiers were killed in italy
