Caused England to see Scot’s as disloyal and troublesome due to their support for jacobitism

38 members of MacDonald clan murdered by Scottish soldiers, Scot’s blamed England as they believed it was ordered by kings court in London

Englands wars with France worsened relationships for Scotland, worsened their economic problems as it affected Scottish towns like Ayr who imported french goods

Years of bad harvest and subsequent famine, king William blamed as he didn’t provide any help, Scot’s felt abandoned by neighbours

England excluded Scotland from English colonies, so couldn’t access colonies and couldn’t profit from trade, worsening economy
William company and Darien scheme
King William discouraged investments into company of Scotland acitng against them, led to failure of Darien scheme so Scotland couldn’t reach Englands international level, felt William was biased towards england
Act of settlement 1701
Implemented by England, meant Sophia of hanover and her heirs were next in line to throne, Scotland never consulted, felt ignored and looked down upon making them angry
Act of security 1703
Scottish parliament could choose own monarch separate from England, meaning they could end up having two different monarchs gave Scottish parliament more power and independence, angered England as wouldn’t prevent war between two countries
Act of anent peace and war
Scottish parliament had right to declare peace and war giving them more power, England resented as could lose Scottish support meant that support form Scotland in war not guaranteed
Alien act 1705
Alienated Scot’s, blocked all imports form Scotland, Scottish landowners couldn’t own land in England only taken back if Scot’s agree to union put pressure on Scot’s and cornered them

King William never visited Scotland, Scotland believed he had no interest and favoured England over them
