What happened in the first Moroccan crisis!?

A

France wanted to take over Morocco but immediately after discovering this Germany (Wilhelm the 2 the kaiser) pledged allegiance to the ruler of Morocco.
He wanted to push the French to see if they would retaliate and the strength of the Entente cordial and to show that Germany wanted to get involved in world politics

What was the purpose of the Algeciras Confrnece

A

It was to settle the Moroccan crisis of 1905-6 by holding an international debate where Germany was humiliated and France was given special right to Morocco and the “friendly understanding” became the Triple Entente officially in 1907

What happened in the second Moroccan crisis

A

A rebellion started in the capital and France sent in 20,000 troops to combat the rebels and Germany interpreted it as an invasion so sent a warship as a show of strength

A

A series of meetings eventually decided that Germany was again in the wrong and had to move the ship, France got to keep Morocco but Germany would get part of the French Congo in return

A

In 1908 there was a rebellion in turkey as Austria Hungary had just announced its annexation of Bosnia to absorb it into their own empire

A

Bosnia was a Slav nation and Serbia wanted Russia to help so they called for a meeting where Germany defended Austria Hungary and Russia didn’t want to risk all out war

A

-Many resented Austria Hungarian rule and wanted to join serbia
-Secret societies formed to escape the rule
-Russia built more weapons to prepare for any future conflict
-Austria Hungary felt they had Germany’s full support
-Italy disliked the expansion which weakened the Triple alliance

-Serbia became determined to be the leader of all Slav people -Many Serbs living in Bosnia wanted to break free of Austria Hungarian rule -Austria Hungary was threatened by Serbias development -Bulgaria was weaker than ever and wanted revenge on Serbia

What was the purpose of the Gallipoli campaign
Open a supply route for Russia and distract Turkish forces from the two main fronts

What was stage first phase of the Gallipoli plan
15 Feb 1915 Brit and franc ships attack Turkish forts at Dardanelles . Several were hit so Turks put mines in the water. By 25 feb they were all cleared and the entrance to the Dardanelles was clear of Turkish forts and mines

What was phase 2 of the Gallipoli campaign
Main naval attack starts on march 18 with 18 large battleships supported by smaller warships and minesweepers. They were shelled by Turkish artillery on entrance to Dardanelles forcing them to retreat after loosing some ships

What was the third and final phase of the Gallipoli campaign
-A necessary land invasion of Gallipoli to clear the way for ships was ordered -Origianlly 150,000 soldiers were to go but lord Kitchener reduced this to 70,000 -Most troops were ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand) -Turks received warning and were ready for the troops with 84,000

No, many died trying to take beaches and in Anzac Cove tlhousnads were killed by waiting Turks. After months of fighting and death to poor conditions the troops were evacuated (80,000)
