Q

Why did ID cards make life difficult?

A

All citizens had to carry an ID card around with them. If they met a Nazi Official, they would be ordered to show their ID card. This made life hard because this stopped many people from seeing family and friends and they would suffer severe punishments if they didn’t have their ID cards.

Q

Why did Rationing and Food Shortages make life difficult?

A

This was common in occupied zones. Food was prioritised for the Germans, especially meat and agricultural food. This led to suffering because people had to ration food and essential goods such as bread, sugar and coffee because of food shortages.
