What document caused the United States to join World War I? What did the document say?

A

The Zimmerman Telegram was sent from Germany to Mexico during World War I. It proposed an alliance between Germany and Mexico by asking Mexico to invade the United States if war broke out between Germany and the U.S. In return Germany would help Mexico reconquer lost territory in the U.S. This telegram was intercepted and was one of the factors that led to the U.S. decision to enter WWI.
