Means “My struggle” and it is a book written by Hilter while he was in jail for the Beer Hall Putsch, which the Nazi’s tried to seize Bavaria (they learned if they want to get power, they have to do it legally). This book outlined his views and his hatred for Jews and other people he felt were “undesirable”
Occupied Zone or German Occupation
Once the Nazis were in control of Germany, they extended their power into other European countries and created “occupied zones” where they took out the government.
Appeasement of Hitler (Munich Conference)
How the nations responded to a growing Hitler. Nations felt if they gave into his wants, he would eventually stop taking more. However, this backfired on European nations because he was never satisfied.
Totalitarianism
When a leader has complete control of their country and the private lives of its citizens
The Rhineland:
An area between France and Germany that the German military was forbidden to enter. Hitler will enter this zone with military and take it back and the Allies will do nothing.
The Sudetenland
A former area of Germany (made Czechoslovakia after WWI) that Hilter demands back. Germans living there want to be back in Germany and Hilter is given permission to take it back. (Jews in this area are all sent to Concentration/death camps right away.)
Rationing
Used in Germany post WWI- people were only allowed to buy a certain amount of food and couldn’t buy more than what was allotted by the government.
Fascism:
A political system where the government has a lot of power and controls nearly everything by using their military and people fear the government because you cannot disagree with it.
Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass
November 9 and 10 1938- A Nazie government campaign to attack Jewish people, homes, and businesses. This began the changes in the laws for Jewish people in German Occupied Zones. (examples of laws are: Jews can’t go out after dark; they must wear a yellow Star of David on clothes for identification, Jews can not socialize with non Jews in public, and Jewish children are not permitted in schools with others.)
Nazi Soviet Pact:
Germany and The Soviet Union agreed to not attack each other and secretly divided up parts of Eastern Europe. (Hitler broke this with the invasion of Poland)
Axis Alliance:
Germany, Italy, and Japan’s alliance
