What are Fancy yarns
A
- Yarns with interesting textures e.g.
- Boucle:
- A core yarn, A Binder yarn and an effect yarn.
- looped/ soft yarn
- Slub:
- spinning thicker and thinner sections of yarn at irregular intervals
- gives aesthetic of linen or wild silk
- chenille
- Projecting fibres around the central core
- produced by weaving then cutting open net type fabric then cutting it
- creates soft bulky fabrics

What are staple yarns?
A
yarns made from short fibres that have been combed to lie in the same direction before being twisted.
They are hairy so good at trapping air and moisture.
- they have more texture than smooth yarns and a duller appearance

What are filament yarns?
A
- Multi filament yarns are made by twisting continuous filament fibres together.
- Mono filament yarns are made from a single continuous filament fibre
- They are smooth so don’t trap air and moisture and are more lustrous in appearance
