What are Fancy yarns

A
  • Yarns with interesting textures e.g.
  • Boucle:
  • A core yarn, A Binder yarn and an effect yarn.
  • looped/ soft yarn
  • Slub:
  • spinning thicker and thinner sections of yarn at irregular intervals
  • gives aesthetic of linen or wild silk
  • chenille
  • Projecting fibres around the central core
  • produced by weaving then cutting open net type fabric then cutting it
  • creates soft bulky fabrics

What are staple yarns?

A

yarns made from short fibres that have been combed to lie in the same direction before being twisted.
They are hairy so good at trapping air and moisture.
- they have more texture than smooth yarns and a duller appearance

What are filament yarns?

A
  • Multi filament yarns are made by twisting continuous filament fibres together.
  • Mono filament yarns are made from a single continuous filament fibre
  • They are smooth so don’t trap air and moisture and are more lustrous in appearance
