1
Q

What does lingual artery do?

A

-supplies tongue, sublingual gland, lingual gingivae and floor of mouth
-lingual vein drains the blood from same region
-artery and veins have superficial and deep branch
-can see deep lingual vein on underside of tongue (blue colour)

Q

facial artery

A

-Runs from external carotid, travels under inferior margin of mandible
-gives off inferior labial branch that runs deep to bottom lip
-superior labial branch that travels under top lip
-continues under the orbit and terminates as angular artery under side of nose

Q

pathway of venous from Inferior alveolar vein

A

Inferior alveolar vein-drains blood from mandibular teeth. These pass up to the:
Maxillary vein which is plexus of veins sat by pterygoid venous plexus
This plexus directly communicate with the cavernous sinus, huge vein structure in skull
-pterygoid plexus has potential of spread of infection from plexus to cranial cavity and nerve found in cavernous sinus
-maxillary vein drains into retromandibular vein which combines with facial vein and drains into internal jugular vein
-anterior portion of retromandibular vein drains into external jugular vein

Q

injection

A

Anaesthetics via injection, pterygoid venous plexus very important
-needle may pierce plexus and introduce infection-
-maxillary artery lies in this area so also possible to accidently pierce this vessel
-may cause swelling/blood
-may inject aesthetic into bloodstream causing systemic toxicity

Q

lymphatic system

A

-As blood is forced under pressure through capillaries, fluid leaks out through thin vessel walls into surrounding tissue
-key means of delivering key nutrients into dissolved tissues, it creates problem. How can we remove tissue fluid and return it to bloodstream?
-lymphatic vessels are network of vessels found in most tissues except brain
-travel through body to form larger channels and deposit tissue fluid they’ve collected called lymph back into veins at base of neck
-plays central role in immune surveillance and response

17
Q

lymph nodes

A

-sacs of immune cells along it-called lymph nodes. As lymph filters through nodes, any foreign antigen are detected by immune cells within them triggering immune response
-small clusters of lymph nodes under chin Infront of ear-forms ring of nodes in superficial tissues around head, superficial nodes with external jugular vein just under skin of neck below the ear
