How many covalent bonds in diamond?
4
What is the formation of diamond?
tetrahedal
Can Diamond conduct electricity?
No, it does not have freely moving electrons
Why does it have a high melting point?
Strong covalent bonds need high energy to break down.
How many bonds does each carbon atom form?
4
Use for Kerosene?
Fuel for airplanes
Top of fractional distillation?
Refinery gas
Bottom of fractional distillation?
Bitumen
Use of Refinery Gas?
Cooking and heating
Use of Bitumen?
Making Roads
Steps of fractional distillation?
1) Heating
2) Vaporization
3) Condensation
4) Collection
What is heating is fractional distillation?
Heating up the liquid in a distilling flask
What is vaporization?
When the liquid with lower boiling points evaporate they rise to the top
What is condensation in fractional distillation?
As they vapours cool they liquid are at different heights in order of boiling point
What is collection?
The ones with lower boiling point are collected higher up.
What is covalent bonding
two non-metals share a pair of electrons to complete outer shell
What is ionic bonding?
When a metal atom transfers an electron to a non-metal
Why is potassium reactive
because it readily loses its single outer electron, forming a positive ion.
Why is potassium more reactive then lithium?
its outer electron is further from the nucleus and is thus less strongly held.
Does hydrogen peroxide decompose quicker with a catalyst
Yes - from days to seconds
