Q

What is tobacco mosaic?

A

A widespread plant pathogen that affects 150 species. Creates a mosaic discolouration pattern, this prevents photosynthesis. This can remain in the infected soil for up to 50 years.

Q

What is rose black spot?

A

A fungal disease in rose leaves, it creates dark spots. causes leaves to yellow or drop early, this is due to the reduced surface for photosynthesis.

Q

What is photosynthesis?

A

Photosynthesis is the endothermic reaction/process a plant has to go through in order to make food for itself.

Q

What is the equation for photosynthesis?

A

carbon dioxide + water ——> glucose + oxygen

or

6CO2 + 6H2O ——> C6H12O6 + 6O2

6
Q

Where does a plant get it’s energy from in order to carry out this process?

A

Energy is given to the plants in the form of light (from the sun). This is collected by the chlorophyll which is a green substance that can be found in the chloroplasts.

Q

What is an epidermal tissue????????

A

A waterproof cover for all of the plant’s surfaces (it has a very large surface area.

If u got that wrong then u r dumb dumb

Q

What is A palisade mesophyll tissue????!?!!

A

A tissue which contains a lot of chloroplasts, which carry out photosynthesis

If at first you don’t succeed, try,,,,, try,,,,, try again.

Q

What are aphids?

A

Sharp mouthparts will penetrate the phloem vessel to feed on sap. Attack in huge numbers and deprive the plant of photosynthesis products. Also transfer viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Q

Wat is a spongy mesopyyll

A

It’s a tissue which contains a lot of chloroplasts for photosynthesis but also has bloody massive air spaces and huge surface area to make diffusion easier!

Well played, you must be on track if you hit the 5 button!!!!!!!!!

13
Q

How does temperature affects transpiration?

A

temperature affects transpiration as the water molecules move faster. Therefore, diffusion will occur at a faster speed.

14
Q

How does weather affect transpiration? (DRY CONDITIONS)

A

The concentration of the water and dry air would be steeper. Therefore, equilibrium can be reached quicker as diffusion will happen faster.

Q

How does light affect transpiration?

A

more photosynthesis = more energy for the stomata to open and close

16
Q

How do plants use glucose?

A

plants use glucose to build up cellulose for cell walls. (this increases strength)

17
Q

What does the energy transferred in respiration do?

A

energy transferred in respiration may he used to build small molecule into bigger ones. For example, plans build up glucose into complex carbohydrates cellulose, which can strengthen cell walls.

18
Q

How does starch affect water balance in plants?

A

Starch in insoluble, so it had no effect if the water balance in the plant. This means the starch can be stored in large amounts. So over winter, it because the main energy store in plants.

19
Q

Name the key plant defences

A

Physical: cell walls, waxy cuticle and layers of bark/dead cells.

Chemical: antibacterial chemicals and poisons to deter herbivores

20
Q

Why might plants droop when touched?

A

To make the predator believe the plant is dead or to startle it.

21
Q

How does airflow affect transpiration?

A

wind increases transpiration as water is blown away.

22
Q

How does humidity affect transpiration?

A

more humidity = a less streamer gradient = less transpiration.

23
Q

What does the xylem cell do???!!

A

It carries a load of water and dissolved mineral ions from the root all the way up to the leaves 😲. It is dead when it is used

Good insult: you must be a xylem cell, cuz your better when your dead game other person dies

24
Q

What is the pholem cell????!!!!!!!? Huh?

A

It carries dissolved food from the leaves around the plant.

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

25
Q

What is a specialised cell??

A

A cell which performs just one specific job. E.g. a sperm cell which has a specialised tail so it can move around easily.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

26
Q

What are the man four plant organs??

A

Roots
Stem
Leaf
Flower

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall
