Q

What is air resistance?

A

When an object falls, it accelerates at first, but as it gets closer to the ground it falls at a constant speed. This is GRAVITY and AIR RESISTANCE pushing against each other. Air resistance tries to prevent an object falling to the ground, while gravity, which is much stronger, pulls it to the Earth.

8
Q

Describe an everyday situation where friction is used

A

eg. Striking a match: while you strike the match box, friction acts against the match and the rough surface, making heat which equals fire. If friction wasn’t there, you wouldn’t get a spark of fire.

eg. Gripping a pencil: your rough fingerprint keeps the pencil in your grip. If friction wasn’t there, you wouldn’t be able to hold anything.

Q

What does an atom look like?

A

An atom has two rings. Depending on how many protons or electrons it has, it is either POSITIVELY CHARGED or NEGATIVELY CHARGED.

Q

What do atoms do?

A

Q

ACTIVITY:

A rat is eating grass. He gets eaten by a hawk, who dies a week later on the forest floor.
Construct a food chain for this scenario on a piece of paper.

A

*Don’t put the sun in your food chains

Grass ➡ rat ➡ hawk ➡ decomposers

Q

What is an abiotic factor?

A

Non living factors in an ecosystem, eg. rock, sky, water.

17
Q

What is a biotic factor?

A

Living things in an ecosystem, eg. plants, animals, birds, bacteria.

18
Q

Construct a food web out of the following animals:

Grass, rabbit, fox, berries.

A

Rabbit eats grass and berries

Fox eats rabbit

19
Q

A balloon is rubbed against a jumper. It sticks there. Explain how.

A

As the balloon looses charge, the jumper gains it, so they have opposite charge. Opposites attract.

20
Q

Describe friction as a contact force

A

Friction can be a contact force when two surfaces slide across each other, creating friction.
