Year 7 scienc Flashcards
(21 cards)
What is an independent variable?
The variable that you change
What is a dependant variable?
The variable that you measure
What is a control variable?
The variable that you keep the same to ensure it is a fair test
What is an atom?
It’s the smallest unit that can take part in a chemical reaction
What is an element?
A substance containing one type of letter
What is a compound?
Two or more different atoms joined together by chemical bonds.
What is a molecule?
Two or more atoms joined together by chemical bonds
In a fair test, what is the most important thing?
Having multiple control variables which are being kept the same. And have only one independent variable.
What are the ways in which energy can be lost?
Through heat and sound
In what ways can energy be used?
Useful or wasted
What are cells?
Cells are the building blocks of life.
What are the components of an animal cell?
Mitochondria
Cell membrane
Ribosomes
Cytoplasm
Nucleus
What are the three components of a plant cell that an animal cell doesn’t have?
Vacuole
Cell wall
chloroplasts
What is the mitochondria?
the site of aerobic respiration
What are ribosomes?
The site of protein synthisis
What is the cytoplasm?
Where chemical reactions in a cell take place
What is a cell membrane?
Controls what goes in and out of the cell
What is the nucleus?
Controls the cells and stores genetic material in the cell
What is a cell wall?
provides structure in a plant
What is a vacuole?
Helps to maintain water balance
What are chloroplasts?
Site of photosynthisis
