What is eminence?
Acknowledging someone for what they changed in society.
What are three things you would include in a biography about an eminent person.
- What was their struggle in life and what made it difficult for them to stand up for what they thought was right.
- Who supported their movement and who stopped them from keeping on going.
- What was their movement all about.
What does attribute mean?
A qualities or characteristics that shows someones personality.
What are two positive and two negative impacts of the snowy mountain scheme?
Positive:
-Provided many jobs after World War 2.
-Making it easier to provide energy and light for people in Australia.
Negative:
-The workers worked hard in really hard conditions that led to injuries and permanent disabilities.
-Took lots of money out of Australians budget.
How and why did the workers of the Snowy Mountains Scheme impact in Australians society?
Many of the workers where immigrants from different country’s trying to seek a job after World War 2. After The Snowy Mountains Scheme was finished many of the workers stayed in Australia. Which was the first big step in created what we know as today’s Australians multicultural society.
Explain the argument Eddie mambo put forward to the Australian High court?
To fight back the ownership of Mer for the Indigenous Owners of Mer.
What was the result of Eddie Mabo’s case to Indigenous people?
After Eddie Mabo’s case other Indigenous communities started fighting back for their land ownership as well as the Mer people getting back their land.
When and Where was Eddie Mabo born?
29th of June 1936 and was born on the island of Mer.
Why was Eddie banished from Mer?
Because he broke a traditional law of his people.
What does “Terra Nullius” mean?
It means a land that belongs to no one.
What did Eddie learn from two historians that shocked him?
He found out his land was owned by the Australian government, on behalf of the crown.
How long did Eddie have to fight until Eddies people could get ownership back from the Australian government.
It was a long and fierce battle lasting ten years.
