Q

Characteristics of All Cells

A
  1. Carry an Inherent Program — Have DNA. This includes a way to encode instructions for building the life form, a way to read those instructions, and a way to replicate them to make more living things (i.e., reproduction)
  2. Carry out Metabolism — Carry out chemical reactions to trap and use energy. It can also include building molecules that the life form needs.
  3. Membrane bound— Has a cell membrane

Q

Binary Fission

A
  • asexual reproduction by a separation of the body into two new bodies.
  • During binary fission, the DNA molecule replicates and forms two DNA molecules. The cell then grows to create room for each molecule to move towards the opposite side of the bacterium. At the same time, the cell membrane divides to form 2 daughter cells. After division, the new cells grow and the process repeats itself.[2]
