In this story Jesus makes it clear that the kingdom of God is infinately more important than money and wealth. The scholar Bonhoeffer says that Jesu is asking the man to make a huge sacrafice in giving up his wealth. He is not just asking for inner detatchement but litterally give away his wealth.

Explain Matthew 6: 25 - 34.
the sermon on the mount.
Jesus outlines what it means to live in the presence of God. It involves going beyond the letter of the law and living a lifestyle of love and commitment. Jesus is urging his followers to have the right priorities - putting the kingdom of God first. the priority is the spiritual life which is more important than anything physical. the enemy of any priority is anxiety. he urges people to have faith in God.
explain Luke 12:33 - 34
Jesus asks his followers to sell their possessions and give their money to the poor. this passage suggests that the decision we make regarding our wealth indicates the path we choose - an earthly path or the path to heaven. In this passage Jesus is not only pointing out the dangers of greed but also highlighting the importance of loving our neighbour by giving our wealth to those in need.
Explain 1 Timothy 6:10
all of the letters found in the New Testament explain how to remain true to the faith and how to be a good Christian. In this letter, Timothy explains that money is not evil in itself; it is the love of money or greed that is the real danger. the letter also says that it is the love of money that leads people away from faith. -it is the eagerness to be rich rather than the riches itself that is dangerous.

managing or taking care of.
what does the theological concept of stewardship involve?
humans having the God given position of managing their resources well.
how does Genesis link to stewardship?
God creates the earth, it belongs to God. Humans have been given charge over it.

possessions.
As humans own possessions, who does stewardship apply to?
individuals as well as groups and nations.
why does stewardship involve giving to those in need?
because God is the defender of the poor and oppressed.
what is considered the opposite of stewardship?
Greed

a way of life which involves living simply, discipline or training in order to completely focus on God.

to fast, devotion to prayer, turning away from possessions and living an iniherent lifestyle.

constant travelling, relying on the support and hospitality of others.

from living as a hermit to living in the world but practicing aspects of asceticism.
