Order all the numbers.
Cross off each side until you reach the middle number
If there are two middle numbers, add them together then divide the answer by two to find your answer.
What does 5 squared mean?
5x5 = 25
What does 8 squared mean?
8x8 = 64
What is the square root of 16?
4
What is the square root of 100?
10
What does 3 cubed mean?
3x3x3 = 27
What does 5 cubed mean?
5x5x5 = 125
What is BIDMAS?
Brackets Indices +Roots Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction
What does 0.5x mean?
It means half of. This means just divide by 2.
Bryn is b years old. Jez is 2 years older than Bryn. Helen is 5 years younger than Bryn.
Write an expression for Jez’s age.
Write an expression for Helen’s age
Bryn age = b
The question tells us Jez is 2 years older than Bryn.
This means Jez = b+2
The question tells us Helen is 5 years younger than Bryn.
This means Helen = b-5
A butcher always makes 30 more sausages than the customer’s order.
How much the customer’s order = R
How many sausages made = S
Write an expression (formula) for the number of sausages made.
The question told us there are 30 more sausages than the customer’s order.
This is the same as saying:
sausages = customer order + 30
This means the formula is: S = R + 30
Expand
4(x+3)
There are two steps
4 times x = 4x
4 times 3 = 12
Now we add these together
Our answer is 4x+12
