A

Not always the informant. Obtain particulars and try get a gage on the events that have transpired. Use TEDS (tell, explain, describe and show) first. Then 5W and H questions.

A

Overall impression of scene. Include what you want to achieve and your options. Include factors that may affect the outcome of your end goal. Will change as situation unfolds.

5WH + H Questions

A

What, When, Where, Who, Why and How.

  • WHAT happened, did they say?
  • WHEN did it happen?
  • WHERE did it happen? Were you standing?
  • WHO was involved? Said that?
  • WHY did this happen?
  • HOW did it happen?

Probing questions allow small range of responses. The 5WH + 1H questions can be used to probe a persons account for more details.
