What was the impact of the renaissance

A

Some of the greatest artists, scientists, statesmen, authors and thinker in human history strived during this era, while global exploration opened up new lands and cultures to the European commerce. The Renaissance is credited with bridging the gap between the middle ages and modern day civilisation.

Write an essay about the life of a famous artist in the renaissance you have studied.

A

Michelangelo was born in Florence in 1475. He was apprenticed to the sculptor Domenico Ghirlandaio. He studied the work of the great Florentine artist Donatello. He eventually got the attention of Lorenzo De Medici He invited him to live with him and study in his sculpture academy.

Michelangelo left Florence for Rome in 1496 after Lornezo’s death. Soon a cardinal commissioned him to sculpt the Pieta. In 1508 he began to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel commissioned by pope Julius. It took him four years to paint this Fresco.

He spent the rest of his life in Rome and wrote poetry and designed buildings as an architect.
