Failures of the FP

A
  • death of Prince Arthur = Treaty of Medina del Campo ruined
  • Margaret of Burgundy (sister of King Edward IV and Yorkist), supported Lambert Simnel and Perkin Warbeck
  • Scotland: despite perpetual peace treaty, Scotland continued to make border raids into England
  • Italian imports: 1492, Henry imposed fixed tariffs on all imports to Italy so Italians retaliated by refusing to send goods to England
  • Burgundy: 1493, Henry banned all trade with Burgundy due to Margaret of Burgundy’s continued support for Warbeck

Henry’s FP: Failures

A
  • Brittany was lost
  • Treaty of Redon = had to supply 6,000 men
  • Perkin Warbeck was welcomed into France, Ireland, Burgandy, and the HRE
  • Treaty of Windsor = lost 136,000 pounds to Philip of Burgundy
  • Scottish and Warbeck attack on England led to Henry having to declare war
  • Need for money to fund war and protection from foreign threats led to the cornish rebellion due to taxes

  • slight hindrances with pretenders gaining support but the ultimate goal of recognition and security of the throne and Tudor dynasty was accomplished
