What is the presentation?
A
Ampoule of 5,000 international units (IU) in 5mL

How does it work?
A
A naturally occurring anticoagulant which inhibits the clotting of blood by enhancing the rate at which antithrombin III neutralises thrombin and activated factor X (Xa).

What is the onset?
A
Immediately after IV administration

What are the indications?
A
Patients with STEMI going directly to Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory as per receiving hospital 12-lead ECG interpretation.

What are the contraindications?
A
Hypersensitivity to Heparin
Presence of known haemorrhagic states

What are the precautions?
A
Haemorrhagic risks in case of possible trauma.

What is the dose?
A
IV only: 5000IU / 5ml bolus dose flushed with NaCl 0.9%.
