Q

What are the 3 Network profiles inside of Windows 7?

A
  • Home( The network is trusted) . Any other devices on the same network will be able to communicate with that device
  • Work( Can see other devices, but can’t join things like Homegroup)
  • Public( Most restrictive) You are invisible( airport, coffee shop etc) so devices can’t just see and connect to your device.

A
  • Assign( map) a drive letter to a share( folder) this will allow you to reconnect automatically every time you start your system this can be configured inside of File Explorer by first clicking on the “ This PC” and then clicking on “ map network drive”
  • Alternatively to map a network drive inside of the command prompt you would use the “net use” command. Specifically to map a share to a network drive letter you could type something like “ net use X: \Servername\share-name”
  • If you want to make a share hidden name it with a $ at the end of the name.( Not a security feature)
  • To view all shares go to the control panel ,then under administrative tools go to Computer Management and you will see the shared folders and names etc.
