1A.5 Newtons laws of motion Flashcards

Q

explain how the reading on a balance would increase when a ball is added to a peaker of water (using newtons third law of motion)

A

if you drop a ball in water the water molecules would exert a force on the ball pushing it up so the ball would exert an equal and opposite force on the water pushing down. so the extra force exerted by the ball will increase the reading of the balance

Q

so how can changing densities change the push-down force of an object dropped in a beaker

A

the lower the density the lower the amounts of particles present therefore lower push-up force on the object so less force is exerted back by the object (n3 of motion)

Q

what is newtons second law of motion

A

acceleration is directly proportional to resultant force and acceleration is inversely proportional to the mass

Q

what happens when you run into a wall

A

the wall would exert an equal and opposite force on you pushing you both but back. since the wall is connected to the earth it the acceleration won’t be noticed since the earth has a huge mass
