Q

Network Diagram

A

the process used by project managers to organize this information into a graphic representation or a network diagram that visually shows the team and stakeholders how the schedule will unfold. The goal is to develop a clear understanding of what will be done, when, in what order, and how these activities or tasks interrelate with each other.

You create a precedence diagram or a network diagram to show your understanding in a graphic representation for how the project will proceed. This is a technique used for constructing the schedule module, showing which activities are to be done when.

A project schedule network diagram is a graphical representation of the logical relationships or dependencies the team has recognized during the planning phase. You can produce this diagram from the spreadsheet you build using routine software tools or project management software.

The network diagram can be created at a detail or summary level.

Q

Gantt Chart

A

It is a bar graph that shows the relationships in yet another format and can track more detail on each task and activity.

One of its most visual relationships is time relationships with lag and lead time.

Q

Lead/Lag Time

A

When linking tasks you can add a lead or lag time to extend a link backward or forward so that the successor task starts earlier or later than it otherwise would.

Inserting a lead time between tasks can help shorten the overall duration of the project by allowing the successor task to start prior to completion of its predecessor.
