Tensor Fascia Latae

A

Origin: ASIS, anterior iliac crest, iliac tubercle

Insertion: Lateral patellar and Gerdy’s tubercle via iliotibial band

Action: Hip flexion, abduction, medial rotation, resists knee varus, (in weight-bearing, stabilises pelvis)

Innervation: Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)

Gluteus Medius

A

Origin: Lateral gluteal surface of ilium

Insertion: Greater trochanter of femur

Action: Hip abduction, medial rotation (anterior part), lateral rotation (posterior part)

Innervation: Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
