Q

List the necessary steps for this experiment

A
  1. Blend celery and water for 4 seconds and filter using coffee paper.
  2. Pour filtered solution into a graduated cylinder and place in a water bath of 25 degrees C.
  3. Place pH buffer solution 9 in the graduated cylinder.
  4. Add one drop of washing-up liquid to the graduated cylinder.
  5. Add some hydrogen peroxide to a smaller graduated cylinder. Place in the water bath.
  6. Leave both in a water bath until they have reached 25 degrees C.
  7. Remove and pour hydrogen peroxide into the graduated cylinder containing the blended celery.
  8. Note and record the volume at the top of the foam after 2 minutes.
  9. Repeat the past steps using boiled catalase solution instead of catalase solution as it denatures the enzyme.

Q

How much foam will be produced with catalase solution and with boiled catalase solution?

A

None will be produced with boiled celery as the enzyme has been denatured while foam will be formed with normal celery
