Q

How would I find torque, mass, distance from pivot and force?

A

Funny t = Fd

Mass is found using F = ma

Q

What are factors present if we assume the system is in equilibrium?

A

If a system is in equalibrium, the weight forces (down) and support forces/tension forces (up) should equal each other, and in rotational equalibrium, the clockwise torque, Tcw and counter-clockwise torque Tccw equal each other as well.

Q

What is the relationship between torque, the size of the force, and the distance from the pivot point?

A

Torque is equal to the size of the force multiplied by the distance from the pivot point. t = Fd

Q

Where should you place a pivot point?

A

At a point where there is a torque you do not want to calculate.

Q

What is the torque if a force acts at the pivot?

A

0, since t = Fd and d = 0

Q

What happens when downwards torque acts on an angled object such as a wrench on a bolt?

A

When a downwards torque acts on an angled object, the distance is decreased. To work out what it has decreased to, use the angle and sohcahtoa to find out the tangent distance to the pivot point.
