Refers to how different people view place in different ways
Factors that affect positionality
. Age . Ethnicity . Sex . Religion . Socio - political group
Define Temporal (view of place)
Changes in a place over time
e.g. A settlement built in a marsh called Slo in the 11th century through to the Heart of Slough in 2017
Define Spatial (view of place)
Differences and similarities between places / locations
e.g. comparing Chalvey to Upton
Define near place (spatial)
They can be geographically close e.g. Langley to Slough. They can also be near as they have similar locale
Define far place (spatial)
They can be geographically distant e.g. Slough to Manchester. They can also be far as they are geographically close but have a different locale.
How does globalisation affect far and near places?
Globalisation can make places that are geographically far be close in terms of locale. For example an American tourist visiting Starbucks in Tokyo.
Examples of how view and connection with places change with time (temporal change)?
Little Britain → White British , Empire , Royalty , Tea , Quaint , Christian
Modern Britain → Diverse, Commonwealth , Multicultural , Brexit, Cultural e.g. Britpop, grime
Define intagible qualities
unable to be touched, not having physical presence e.g. pride as it is emotional and can’t be touched

touchable, holdable e.g retail as you can physically touch shops
