Q

How can the effects of stress on our cardiovascular system become life threatening?

A

Blood pressure increases as part of our FoF response of the ANS- the raised blood pressure and increased heart rate of the SAM axis can damage the blood vessels because the blood is being pumped faster and so at a higher pressure through the blood vessels

Q

What is a consequence of this blood being pumped faster and at a higher pressure?

A

The arteries become scarred, hardened and elastic- hardened or narrowed arteries may be unable to supply the amount of blood the body’s organs need. The damage caused by hypertension begins the process of arteriosclerosis
