What was a hardiness research study?

A

Kobasa (1979):

  • Used 670 aged 40-49 US business executives and assessed them using early version of SRRS to identify 3 years previous stress
  • Looked at illness records and illness
  • 150 had high stress-low illness scores
  • Proposed hardy personality encourages resilience as high stress-low illness individuals scores high on all 3 characteristics
