A

Hormones- Chemical messengers transported in the blood to a specific target organ, and changes the activity in that organ.

Each Hormone is produced by a specific endocrine gland and is bound to a specific target organ.

Different types of hormones

A

Pituitary Gland- Produces FSH and LH which controls the level of testosterone and progesterone. Also releases growth Hormones
Testes(Male)- Produce testosterone, which controls puberty and sperm production
Adrenal Glands- Produce adrenaline, which triggers the ‘flight or fight response when in a dangerous situation.
Thyroid Gland- Releases thyroxine which controls our metabolism, heart rate and temperature.
Ovaries(Female)- Produce oestrogen and is one of the main hormones in the menstrual cycle.
Pancreas- Produces insulin and glucagon, both of which help control glucose levels in the blood.

Hormonal Control of Metabolic Rate

A

Metabolic Rate- The rate at which energy stored in your food is transferred by all the reactions that take place in your body to keep you alive.
Resting Metabolic Rate- Measured when the body is at rest in warm room and long after a person has had a meal.
Adrenaline- A hormone that is released from the adrenal glands.
