PBL 7 Flashcards

Q

Tumor Suppressor Genes examples

A
  1. RB gene (retinoblastoma) -> Gene that is a prototype tumor suppressor gene. Encodes a nuclear protein that acts as a cell cycle control checkpoint at the G1 phase
  2. p53 gene

Q

(Proto-)Oncogen examples:

A
  1. RAS (G-protein transmitter) -> Keeps hydrolyzing GTP to GDP, therefor making the surface protein overactive, 30% of all human cancers.
  2. EGF (Epidermal growth factor) -> Deletion makes this overactive,
  3. Myc protein, general TF -> responsible for cyclin production -> overactive cell proliferation
