Q

Sensory neurons function

A

Process information taken from the senses

Found in receptors

Convert information into neural impulses

When the impulses reach the brain, translates into sensations so we can react appropriately

Unipolar - 1 extension from cell body

Q

Reflex actions

A

Sometimes, not all sensory information travels to the brain

Reflex actions occur quickly without the delay of sending impulses to the brain

Q

Relay neuron

A

Carry messages within the CNS

Enable communication between motor and sensory neurons and the CNS

Found only in the brain and spinal cord and relay information from one part to another

Bipolar - 2 extensions from the cell body (one axon, one dendrite

Q

Motor neuron

A

Carry signals from the CNS to a muscle or gland

Form synapses with muscles and control their contractions

When stimulated, release neurotransmitters that bind to receptors on the muscle and trigger a response which leads to muscle movement

Multipolar - many extensions from the cell body (many dendrites, 1 axon)
