11 Flashcards
(7 cards)
Fetal tachycardia >160 causes
Maternal fever (eg, intraamniotic infection)
Medication side effect (eg, beta agonists)
Fetal hyperthyroidism
Fetal tachyarrhythmia
Fetal bradycardia <110
Maternal hypothermia
Medication side effect ( eg, beta blockers)
Fetal hypothyroidism
Fetal heart block (eg, anti-Ro/SSA, anti-La/SSB)
the most common cause (particularly during labor) is….. from ……
maternal fever
intraamniotic infection (IAI) (chorioamnionitis)
IAI occurs due to polymicrobial vaginal bacteria ascending into the uterus during labor. Patients have
maternal fever 39 C (in the absence of
another clear cause),
leukocytosis (>15,000/mm3) ,
and/or purulent amniotic fluid.
The risk of developing IAI increases as
labor progresses and after membrane rupture
Treatment of IAI is with
antipyretic therapy,
broad-spectrum antibiotics,
delivery (eg, induction, augmentation) to prevent fetal morbidity (eg, sepsis, cerebral palsy) and mortality.
Causes of abcent variability
CNS depressants (narcotics, alcohol, Ilicit drugs) Temporary fetal sleep
Prematurity
Fetal hypoxia
