11-202V3 AETCSUP CH 5 Flashcards
(23 cards)
Departure Weather requirements
Do not take off when existing weather is below the lowest compatible approach mins
Standard IFR departure climb gradient
3.3% or 200 feet per NM
What alt can you do an IFR turn off T/O?
Min turn alt is 400 above DER elevation, unless required by a published procedure or ATC
What do published or ATC climb gradients not account for?
Low close-in obstacles
Types of IFR Departure Methods
- Diverse Departure
- Obstacle Departure Procedure
a. Non-Standard TO mins
b. Specific Routing
c. Visual climb over the airport (VCOA)
d. Reduced Takeoff Runway Length - Diverse Vector Area
- ATC Specific
- SID
TERPS DER crossing restriction (Current)
0ft
What does the “Trouble T” mean?
Notifies the pilot that departure procedures exist
ODP Departure Definition
IFR departure procedures specifically designed for obstacle avoidance
Diverse Departure Definition
Acceptable IFR departure method for a runway if no obstacles, other than low close-in obstacles penetrate the 40:1 OIS
Do Low Close-in obstacles alone constitute an ODP?
No
Can you fly a Diverse Departure with the “Trouble T”
No
Diverse Departure obstacle assessment area is limited to ___ NM or ____ NM in mountains
25 NM/ 46 NM
Diverse Sector Departure Def
Allow diverse departures within specific sector requirements
When are Non-standard IFR Takeoff Minimums published?
pilot to see and avoid obstacles penetrate the 40:1 OIS within 3 SM from the DER
Visual Climb Over Airport(VCOA) Def
IFR departure done under VMC over the airfield to published climb-to altitude
Can Pilots construct their own VCOA?
No
Can you fly VCOA at night?
No
When is Reduced Takeoff Runway Length (RTRL) used?
Obstacles penetrate the OIS by 35 ft or less, the procedure designer will limit TORA to achieve 200 ft/NM
Diverse Vector Area (DVA) Definition
Allows radar vectors to be used in lieu of an ODP at locations where ODP has been established.
Specific ATC Departure Instructions Definition
Include heading and altitude (not considered radar vectors) do not apply wind drift corrections
SID Definition
Departure procedure established at certain airfields to simplify clearance delivery procedures and assist in capacity and ATC requirements.
On SID if ATC issues new altitude restriction…
all previously issued altitude restrictions are cancelled, including those published on the SID.
- Comply with speed and lateral restrictions
ATC issues you “Climb Via SID” After Vectors…
Reinstates the SID after issuing vectors, comply with published vertical/lateral nav and speed.
