exposure to a traumatic stressor; actual or threatened, witnessed or learned about event
Posttraumatic Stress DIsorder
> 1 symptom from 4 categories must develop for PTSD
Intrusion symptoms (ex: dream)
Avoidance symptoms (ex: places)
Negative Alterations in Cognitions and Mood (neg. beliefs)
Alterations in Arousal and Reactivity (sleep disturbance)
symptoms must last >1 month, begin within 3 mos but can begin anytime, usually occur in young adults via (internal or external threats)

pt. will have difficulty learning new information (anterograde memory loss) in addition to past memory loss
