28
Q

What does the Calvin cycle convert ?

A

Csrbon dioxide into a 3-carbon suger molecule that is used to make glucose for plants.

29
Q

The__________and______________required in the calvin cycle are provided by light reactions of photosynthesis.

A

ATP and NADPH

30
Q

Explain the steps of the Calvin cycle….

A

The initial step is to attach CO2 to a sugar called ribulose bisphosphate (RuBP), which is done by an enzyme called RuBisCO. This results in two molecules of 3-phosphoglycerate (3PGA), which receive a phosphate from ATP and electrons from NADPH (provided by the light reactions) to form glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P or PGAL). Some G3P is then used to produce carbohydrates such as glucose, which are important for plant growth. The rest of the G3P is converted back to RuBP by ATP so it can accept more carbon dioxide.

31
Q

Cyclic photophosphorylation also occurs during__________?

A

light reactions, and produces ATP (through the action of chemiosmosis), but not NADPH.

32
