A Roman emperor who converted people to Christianity in A.D. 312.
Who fought in the Crusades?
Kings and noblemen.
Why were the Crusades fought?
To regain Jerusalem for Christianity.
Who was Pope Urban II?
A leader of the Catholic Church who called for the Crusades.
What is feudalism?
The political and social system in which kings gave land to nobles in exchange for military service.
What is a pilgrimage?
A journey to a sacred place.

Describing a country in which manufacturing is a primary economic activity.

A religious movement started by Martin Luther’s beliefs.

Religious communities that played a key role in education.
What happened during the French Revolution?
In 1789, a revolution limited the king’s power and ended the privileges of nobles.
What is the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen?
An important document from the French Revolution stating that government’s power comes from the people.
What happened during the Storming of the Bastille?
A huge group of people stormed the Bastille in July 1789.
