Q

what are the impacts of deforestation?

A
monoculture forests
loss of habitats and food source for animals
reduction in biodiversity
reduction in trees = more flooding
more forest fires
haze, from burning palm plantations

9
Q

why is the climate benefiting plants?

A

hot temperatures all year creates evergreen plants
humid and wet environment lets plants thrive
high biodiversity
leaves absorb light through the big leaves (forest floor plants)
drip tip leaves

10
Q

why is there a tropical rainforest climate?

A
Hadley cells
convectional rain
sits above the equator
sun rays hit the equator directly
high intensity sunrays
lots of condensation = humidity

11
Q

how does the Hadley cell work?

A

intense sun causes the air to rise which creates a low-pressure zone
as it rises to cools and forms thick storm clouds and then
- air separates and moves both north and south
- the air then cools and sinks to the ground
- forms a high pressure zone
- it sinks and becomes warmer and drier creating desert climate
- completed cycle and flows back toward the equator as trade winds

Q

what is conventional rainfall, how does it work?

A

rain pattern

  • convectional rainfall usually occurs during the summer when the sun heats the land
  • creates rising pocket of warm air (convection currents)
  • warm air rises and starts to cool and condenses to form clouds
  • clouds produce heavy rainfall and thunderstorms
