Franz Von Papen schemed with HIndenbrug to undermine Chancellor Schleicher and bring Hitler to power in January 1933 with the support of the land-owning elite and military leaders, Papen believed Hitler would be a ‘chancellor in chains’ and could be controlled by powerful elites around him, they ultimately wanted to use the popularity of the Nazis to establish a dictatorship, remove Hitler from power and return to a Junker dominated state
